Mission: Safe Harbor
Amy led the newcomers into the house. She spoke softly to an adult woman who was helping settle young children around the long table with bowls of steaming stew and bread rolls. Then she waved the five to follow her up to the second level.
"Lets get you all warm and into clean clothes and then we can get you fed." She said leading Jordan, Elliot, Eliza, Mateo and Hannah up the stairs. She led them to one of the empty bunk rooms.
On each bunk was a rolled-up towel and a face washer.
Amy assessed them and said. "Shower is down the hall. Anything you do not want to keep, put in that basket there. Anything you want to keep place it at the foot of the bunk you choose. I will go get some clothes for you all. I will bring Pajamas and one set of normal clothes for now." She smiled. "Then food ok?"
Jordana followed her upstairs, leading the kids with. As soon as they reached the top steps, she let them in first before entering. As they settled into the room, she listened to Amy and nodded, "Thank you. I will be fine. Tend to them first, please.
Amy studied JV and said “Right now you all need to rest, so I will go get the clothes and we will get you into clean clothes.” She darted off leaving them in the room.
Elliot looked around the bunk room. Three beds were already taken, so he picked one of the five remaining and toed off the tatty shoes he was wearing. He shrugged off his jacket and placed it were Amy had said to, so it would stay safe.
Mateo looked at Elliot and took the bunk above him, climbing up the ladder and settled in.
Eliza, or Lise as she was called, took a bottom bunk, the top already taken. She was silent. Then she spoke “They seem well supplied.”
Hannah nodded as she took a top bunk, leaving the bottom for JV. “Yeah.. didn’t see any adults though.”
Jordanna crossed her arms, nodding. Looking around, she noted the room's size and assured them, "We can do this without them."
Amy returned with a pile of clothes. She handed them out. “I had to guess at the sizes.” She said. “Water is hot now. Go shower”
She accepted her clothing, nodding, "Thank you." JV turned to them, replying, "Who wants to go first? I'll go last. Make sure you're freshly showered. I'll get your clothing sorted. Then we'll go eat."
They nodded and one by one the younger kids showered.
Amy gathered the clothes for washing and headed down stairs.
She came back with Briar. Both carrying trays of hot stew and bread. They set them up for the group. Briar flashed a smile. "Its chaos downstairs so we figured you might be overwhelmed. "
